Over the last couple of months, I've taste-tested a LOT of food. From popular fried chicken spots to classic Canadian snacks, I've been doing serious research to find out what foods are actually worth the price tag.

None has excited me more than this one, though: trying to take-out sushi from three of Canada's biggest grocery stores. Obviously, these rankings are subjective, but across price, ingredient quality, taste, and portion sizes, there are many details worth considering if you're going to skip the restaurant and opt for something quick and easy instead.

If you are a loyal reader of mine, you know what time it is. Time for me to let you know — for the billionth time — I'm a Canadian girl living in the USA. And while I've always got a lot to say about that, today we'll be discussing the shocking number of iconic Canadian snacks that mean absolutely nothing to Americans.

They may have Paydays, Baby Ruths, and 100 grands — yes, even their chocolate bars are aggressively capitalist — but we have hickory sticks and health care. So... take that.

Chocolate chip cookies are the great unifier: we all love them.

A good chocolate chip cookie has a slightly crunchy exterior with a soft, chewy interior. The cookie itself should be full of flavour — buttery and caramelized, with hints of vanilla. The chocolate chips should only accent an already-good cookie. A common pitfall is when the cookie is too sweet, and the chocolate makes it even sweeter; there's no flavour, only sugar.

Small price, big flavour! I present you: the humble instant noodle.

It's the backbone of student diets, after-work eats, and weekday dinners when appointments, work commitments, and social calendars simply don't allow for a home-cooked meal. While the process of cooking is pretty damn simple (they ARE instant, after all), not all are created equal — and not all are worth your money.

I admit it — I have no brand loyalty when it comes to grocery shopping. I'm always interested in saving money in Vancouver, so I often pop into different places to see what's on sale.

I'm close to several grocery stores and typically make multiple stops a week to pick up what I need.
